It can be a struggle for us to have positive and calm minds, or for our bodies to remainhealthy and balanced. On this page we'll introduce you to this wonderful practice and give you simpleand practical information. We'll also refer you to some great sites that will allow you to explore the ayurvedic principles in more depth.

What is Ayurvedic Medicine?
In short it is a philosophy and system of healing the whole person, body and mind. A holistic science of life & longevity and health. It recognizes the uniqueness of each of us. So we have a fingerprint ofsorts made up of our doshas.

What is a Dosha?
Doshas are the structural features of our bodies. There are three types of doshas and all of us have a portion of each one of the doshas within us. This is our unique fingerprint.

The three doshas are:

Vata which is the air principle that is needed for the nervous system to function.

Pitta which is the fire principle which directs digestion, therefore directing metabolism in the circulatory system.

Kapha which is the water principle that relates to mucous, lubrication and carries nutritionthroughout the arteries.

These three doshas together make up the physiologic constitution of an individual. People have a pedominant dosha, but all the doshas have the basic elements within them. Want to know what your dosha is? Check out What's Your Dosha!
